The PRME Champions’ Group, comprises of a group of remarkable Business Schools, that are engaged as PRME Signatories across the world, along with the commitment to make a large-scale implementation of Sustainability Principles, a reality.
This eminent announcement was made at the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland, while highlighting the need to develop a striking new generation of leaders equipped with the necessary knowledge and skills to achieve the UN’s 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. IMT Ghaziabad, only within less than a year of joining PRME, as an ‘Advanced Signatory’, succeeded in achieving the coveted recognition of joining the spectacular league of 38 leading Business Schools across the globe, who have been meticulously selected by the UN-backed PRME initiative for the 2018-19 Champions Cycle. Assigned to fascinatingly contribute to substantial thought and action for responsible Management Education, the core objective of the PRME Champions group is to work in collaboration to develop and promote the activities that address the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), and to deliver a significant value for Business and Society at large.
This distinguished recognition has added yet another feather to IMT Ghaziabad’s ‘I’m the Change’ initiative’s cap, an initiative led on Sustainability and Social Responsibility (SSR), which has already won gob accolades and National and International awards, including the Gold Award at the Indian Management Conclave 2017, held at IIM Lucknow. In the very first year itself, a total of 74 social projects undertaken across Delhi-NCR in partnership with 12 NGOs and district-level government agencies in Ghaziabad, have touched an estimated 5231 lives. This year, 91 social projects are aligned with SDGs covering a whole range of areas including Education, Women Empowerment, Skill Development, Sustainable Livelihood, and Market Linkage Development, etc.
Since the inception of Principles for Responsible Management Education (PRME) in 2007, it has become the largest organised relationship between the United Nations and Management-related Higher Education Institutions, with over 650 signatories worldwide.
Sincerely keeping the objectives in mind, the Institute is working on the further integration of the SDGs into its Curriculum, Research and Partnerships. Member institutes will be required to take the lead in transformative action in these three areas, along with contributing to the group learning with examples of innovative practices in implementing the goals. The inputs would then be aimed towards formulating a comprehensive blueprint for integrating the SDGs in various other Business Schools and Management-related Institutes.
While realising that a Business is vital to solve global challenges like climatic change, poverty and inequality, the event catered a chance to reaffirm the importance of instilling a holistic purpose of Business in future leaders. It was also suggested that Business School ranking studies, consider the global goals, as a way to incentivise a rapid transformation in teaching, research and campus practices.
