Project “Protsahan Chiraiyya dedicated in memory of Late Dr Sarala Birla

Project “Protsahan Chiraiyya” Life Skills Education Programme (LSE) a rural social  project on women emancipation organized by Birla Institute of Management Technology, Greater Noida successfully crossed its first milestone on 23 July, 2016. The project was launched with the vision to sensitize the rural adolescent girls about all aspects of life, education, health and their roles in the community. Currently the project is on at Neemka Shahjahanpur, Jewar Tehsil, UP. This village is adopted by Honourable Minister of Tourism Dr. Mahesh Sharma, under the Sansad Adarsh Gram Vikas Yojna.

The first phase of the project was flagged off on 28th March, 2016 to commemorate the first death anniversary of Dr. Sarla Devi Birla, Founder BIMTECH. The project imparted life skills training to 30 girls enrolled in the first batch. The girls attended total of 17 highly engaging and enriching sessions conducted on various topics related to their welfare spread across 51 hours during the past four months. The trainers from Ranganathan Society for Social Welfare and Library Development (RSSWLD), the CSR implementing agency of BIMTECH with the support of Sehgal Foundation trainers left no stone unturned in keeping the girls excited about the LSE programme. During these sessions the girls were motivated to continue education and achieve higher goals in their lives. The parents and village administration were also counseled on various topics related to the girl child and their roles in providing them a dignified life.

During the course the girls had several occasions to reflect their learning of the LSE classes in front of District Magistrate, Gautam Budh Nagar, representatives of Hon’ble Minister at his Noida office as well as the BIMTECH family. The Batch 1 which commenced on 2 April, 2016 completed its journey on 23 July, 2016 after handing over the baton to 30 newly enrolled girls of Project “Protsahan Chiraiyya”. They really proved to be the true ambassadors of the Chiraiyya vision as the entire Neeemka Village is excited about becoming a part of the project.

It was a great moment for the girls to be felicitated by Dr. Mahesh Sharma on successful completion of the course. On 3 August, 2016, all the girls received their certificates at the hands of Hon’ble minister in the presence of Mr. Bali, Representative of the Minister, Prof. N N Sharma, Mentor of the project, Dr. Rishi tiwari, (Secretary- RSSWLD), Project Coordinator Prof. Saloni SInha, Ms. Renu and Ms. Zubeida trainers of RSSWLD, Mrs. Asha Sharma, School Teacher from Neemka and several dignitaries of the minister’s office.  In all 29 girls completed the course beating the scorching summer and field engagements due to cultivation season. It was overwhelming to see that the weekly modules drew above 85 % attendance throughout the course.

Dr. Sharma expressed his happiness on seeing the confidence and fearlessness that the girls exuded in the valedictory event organized at Ministry of Tourism, Pariwahan Bhawan, New Delhi. He shared that approximately two crores of investment is being planned at Neemka to revamp the infrastructure like roads, drainage and toilets. He assured that those homes which do not have toilets will soon have it constructed with the help of the Minister Fund. He discussed the vision of the Prime Ministers Beti Bachao and Toilet scheme which is aimed towards the safety and security of women. He motivated and inspired the girls to continue education and never worry about not having resources.

The girls were also addressed by Minister Ramkripal Yadav who congratulated the girls for having the attitude of self development. The girls then were offered refreshments at the minister’s office. Icing on the cake was a visit of the girls to Lok Sabha after the valedictory event as promised by The Hon’ble Minister. The Chiraiyyas witnessed live session on GST Bill at Loksabha and realized how policies are framed for nation building.

Dr. Sharma blessed the girls and said that they all are slated to achieve greater heights in their lives and promised that the Ministers office shall always stand by their dreams.
