Xavier School of Rural Management (XSRM) will be hosting its annual RLLE (Rural Living and Learning Experience) MELA which is a flagship event for the students of rural management on 11th January, 2019. It is a one-day event where students display stalls of various states spread all over India based upon their respective RLLE locations.

As part of the RLLE, students of Rural Management went to different places to experience the diverse rural livelihoods, and undertake various activities like preparation of a village report, working on the development project with the host organization (NGO’s and many other renowned organisations involved with the betterment of rural areas), and develop a case study. During the RLLE programme students of XSRM stayed in 45 villages, covering 12 States and one Union Territory spread across India. The RLLE MELA every year is able to display a diverse range of cultural and social aspects of rural society, and this time the event would be flaunting various stalls where students will be displaying the following aspects of rural life:

  • Various artifacts collected from the respective villages
  • Unique food materials and food habits
  • Attires and other cultural aspects
  • Models of village depicting the landscape
  • Ongoing development interventions in the villages
  • A slide showing photos of rural India.
  • Towards the end, the students will also be performing a skit on a social issue.

XSRM believes in offering a platform for a quality learning experience on emerging issues and trends in the rural world. The school organizes a plethora of events to enrich the students with multifarious experiences. One of the deliverables of RLLE MELA, and the most pertinent one at that is to provide an opportunity for the students’ creativity to reach its summit and thereby express the culture, costumes, developmental activities, challenges and opportunities from across rural India.
