SDMIMD has inaugurated the 2022-24 Batch of the 2-Year Full-time MBA Equivalent program. The inauguration program was presided over by Dr. N.R. Parasuraman, Director, SDMIMD. Dr. L. Gandhi, Chairman - Admissions, SDMIMD, welcomed and introduced the batch. A total of 180 students from 17 Indian states have been admitted this year with a healthy gender ratio of 65% Male and 35% Female. The academic diversity of the batch includes undergraduates from Engineering, Commerce, Management, Science, and others with 17% of the work experience in the batch.
Dr. Parasuraman in his address called upon the students to imbibe the culture and tradition of Dharmasthala philosophy focused on the service to society. Dr. Parasuraman asked the students to dedicate the 2 years of PGDM to the new beginning and use the academic & service facilities for holistic development to make them ready to enter the corporate world. He briefed the students about the new course offering in collaboration with the TCS iON and the modular specialization in Environmental, Social, and Governance [ESG], which will be introduced this year.

SDMIMD Kick-started the PGDM 2022-24 batch with One-week Orientation Program
Day 1: Workshop on Indian Society in Transition
Dr R. Indira Ramarao, Member of the Governing Board of SDMIMD and Formerly Professor of Sociology & Former Director, International Center, University of Mysore, conducted a section-wise focused Workshop on Indian Society in Transition to the PGDM 2022-2024 Batch. The Workshop was organised as a part of the Orientation Program 2022 for the PGDM program on July 4 & 5, 2022.
Day 2: Inspirational talk and Workshop
- Motivational talk by Corporate Women Leader
Mrs. Indra Prem Menon, President, Lakshmanan Isola Private Limited, Bangalore, was invited to address the new batch of the PGDM program on July 5, 2022. Mrs. Indra introduced the corporate work culture and well-being with anecdotes from her personal life. The talk inspired the young managers and informed them about the corporate culture. Mrs. Indra shared valuable tips regarding work-life balance during the talk. The talk was organized as part of the Orientation Program 2022 for PGDM 2022-2024.
- Motivational talk by Prof. Parashivamurthy
Prof. D. Parashivamurthy, Motivational Speaker, NLP Trainer, and Faculty at Government First Grade College for Women, Mysore, spoke on the topic ‘Winners make it happen, Losers let it happen’ on July 5, 2022, as part of the Orientation Program 2022.
Prof. Parashivamurthy said ‘Communication, leadership, and self-motivation are core skills that help the individual to optimize enterprise performance and longevity of serving in any organization. These skills should also help the personal life towards meeting the sustained appropriate traits of personal responsibility and accomplishing the family responsibilities.’
- Workshop on imperatives in Social Responsibilities
Prof. C.V. Sridhar, Faculty – General Management and Manager - Administration, SDMIMD, conducted a workshop for the sections of the PGDM 2022-2024 on July 5 & 6, 2022 as part of the Orientation Program 2022. The workshop focused on sensitizing the young manager toward their responsibility for society and introducing them to the social-centric philosophy of Dharmasthala.
- Workshop on Design Thinking
To cultivate empathy and build the concepts with social inclusion for real challenges an activity-based workshop on design thinking was conducted for the PGDM 2022-2024 Batch. The workshop was conducted section-wise during the Orientation Program 2022 on July 5 & 6, 2022. Dr. Sunil M.V., Head – Academic Administration, and Faculty – General Management, SDMIMD, was the faculty resource for the workshop.
Day 3: Interaction session and Workshops
- ESG and Employee Centric initiatives are core’ – Sri. Kamal Bali
Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) concerns and setting the goals of a company thereon have become prevalent. An investment in ESG is seen as an investment in humanity and a way to build a better future for our future generations. Corporations that weave ESG impact deeper into their culture and way of life are very likely to experience higher growth, strong brand reputation, enhanced customer engagement, stronger stakeholder trust, and effective employee recruitment and retention’ thus said Sri. Kamal Bali, President & Managing Director, Volvo Group India, during the distinguished address delivered as part of the Orientation Program 2022 on July 6, 2022.
During the talk Sri. Bali discussed key trends that are reshaping the world of business & commerce and highlighted the 8 key aspects - uncertainty is the new reality with multiple pathways and geo politics; increasing demands of holistic sustainability and concern for ESG; adapting the emerging technologies; evolving future of manufacturing with rebalancing the global value chain; accelerating the innovation process; collaboration & partnership to meet the customer requirements and outcomes; regulations to the changing trends; and creating an employee-centric organization with the new work culture.
Appreciating the effort of SDMIMD in introducing the Modular Specialization in ESG for the new batch, he said 'Investors are increasingly applying ESG factors as part of their analysis and process to identify material risks and growth opportunities. Environmental focuses on conservation of the natural world, Social which considers the people and relationships, and governance guiding the standards for running a company'. He called upon the new batch effort to earn the Certification in ESG for better placement opportunities.
Dr. N.R. Parasuraman, Director, SDMIMD, delivered the welcome address and presented the core objectives of SDMIMD to be the pioneer in introducing the specialization in ESG in the B-School arena as part of the PGDM program.
- Invited talk by Entrepreneur Mr Sreenidhi
Mr. Sreenidhi G.S.D, Founder and CEO, Cynefian Private Limited, Gudalupet, shared his success story of the rural initiative focused on upskilling the rural youth of Gudalupet in making them corporate-ready. The serial entrepreneur shared several anecdotes from his journey which presented the essential skills required by an entrepreneur to manage the process and to face the challenges to see success. The talk was organized as part of the Orientation Program 2022 for the PGDM Batch 2022-24.
- Workshop on Personality Profiling by Dr. Mousumi Sengupta
Dr. Mousumi Sengupta, Professor - OB & HR, SDMIMD, conducted the 'Workshop on Personality Profiling' for the new PGDM Batch on July 6 & 7, 2022. The workshop helped the young managers to understand their personality types and areas for improvement. The activity-based workshop was administered session-wise by the faculty resource. The workshop was organized as part of the Orientation Program 2022.
- Interactive Session by Dr. Jacob Crasta
Dr. Jacob Crasta, Founder Chairman, CM Envirosystems, Bangalore, was the invited speaker for the distinguished address as part of the Orientation Program 2022 on July 7, 2022. The interactive session by Dr. Crasta brought in various positives and challenges for a young entrepreneur and an executive in the corporate world. The PGDM 2022-2024 Batch gathered tips during the interaction to make their choice for the new avenue.

- Talk by Alumnus Mr Chitradip Pramanik
SDMIMD Alumnus and Manger – Marketing & PMO, EqualizeRCM, Mysore, Mr. Chitradip Pramanik delivered the talk on ‘Getting ready for the Corporate World’ on July 7, 2022. Mr. Chitradip focused his talk on how the additional skills and certificates during the PGDM program help to stand out in the competitive job market. The talk was organized as part of the Orientation Program 2022.
- Talk by Alumnus Mr. Vipin Prasad
Mr. Vipin Prasad, SDMIMD Alumnus, and CEO Joining Dots Inc., Bangalore, delivered an informative talk on ‘E-Commerce: Opportunities & Challenges’ on July 7, 2022, as part of the Orientation Program 2022. The talk focused on the developments in the platform business and the various app-based services making the e-commerce world dearer to the consumers. Mr. Vipin discussed opportunities for young managers in the e-commerce world during the Q&A Session.

- Preparing for an ever-changing world! – Talk by Alumnus
SDMIMD Alumnus Mr. N. Ravi Shankar, CEO of Aim High Consulting, delivered an invited talk on “MBA Na Milegi Dubaara! Preparing for an ever-changing world!” on July 8, 2022, as part of the Orientation Program 2022. Mr. Ravi spoke about the need for self-molding with essential personal traits and values to achieve success both in corporate and personal life. Being a prolific author, Ravi shared the lessons from the Aim Hight PR & Brand exercises and from his personal life. The PGDM 2022-2024 Batch enjoyed the interactive and informative session.
- Mantras for Corporate Success by Ms. Manas Martha
The PGDM 2022-2024 Batch had an opportunity to interact with Mr. Manas Martha, Senior Vice President – HR and CHRO, TTK Prestige Ltd., during the invited talk organized on July 8, 2022, as part of the Orientation Program 2022. Mr. Martha focused his talk on ‘Top 10 Key Success factors to be successful in a corporate world’ by discussing - lifelong learning, commitment, focus on effort, versatility, resilience, collaborative mindset, innovative attitude, and unlearning to learn – to guide the young managers towards achieving the goal. The session concluded with an interactive Q&A.
- Expectations from MBA Students – Talk by Alumnus
Mr. Tejasvi Nathan, SDMIMD Alumnus & VP – Global Talent Partner, HR Swiss Re Global Business Solutions India Pvt. Ltd., was invited to address the young managers of PGDM 2022-2024 as part of the Orientation Program on July 8, 2022. Mr. Tejasvi addressed the new batch on ‘Expectations from MBA students – from Corporate Sector’ illustrating the essentials and desirable requirements for different positions for the young manager in the corporate world. The talk helped the batch to plan the roadmap toward enhancing the skills and credentials to meet the corporate requirements.
- Emotional Intelligence for Success – Talk by Alumnus
Ms. Padmashree G.S., SDMIMD Alumnus and Life Coach & Counsellor, was the speaker for the special orientation session on the topic ‘Emotional intelligence is a key to our success’ organized on July 8, 2022, as part of the Orientation Program 2022. Ms. Padmashree introduced the concept of emotional intelligence and with examples from day-to-day life demonstrated how the quality of life can be improved with certain practices of tips & techniques of the introduced concept. The Q&A had a discussion on stress management, improving concentration, and overcoming depression.
Day 6: Talk By Alumni
- Prerana President address the PGDM 22-24 Batch
SDMIMD alumni association – Prerana was introduced by the President of the association Mr. Niranjan Naik, Founder & Director, Prominent Mind, to the PGDM 2022-2024 Batch on July 9, 2022. Mr. Niranjan with an introduction to Prerana made the new batch aware of the various activities & services from the alumni association apart from the networking opportunities. He demonstrated the website and the app helping them to on-boarding to the huge network of SDMites having a presence across the globe.
- Invited talk by Head-HR from Capgemini
Renowned HR speaker and Career Coach Mr. Naganagouda S.J., Vice President and Head - Human Resources, Global Edge, Capgemini, delivered the invited talk focused on the changing trends of HR in the VUCA World as part of the Orientation Program 2022. Mr. Nagan focused his talk on workplace behavioral change in the volatility, uncertainty, complexity, and ambiguity [VUCA] world. Further, he informed the students on how to prepare themselves for the new normal of the corporate world. The talk was organized on July 9, 2022, for the PGDM 2022-24 Batch.
- HR Challenges during Post COVID – Talk by Alumnus
‘The talent acquisition, retention, and management during the post-COVID scenario have challenged the HR domain. The challenges have made the corporates prioritize employee wellbeing and build their strategies around a Human-centered environment where talent retention is the key’ thus said Mr. Sandesh Murchy, SDMIMD Alumnus and Director, HRSDX JAPAC, Oracle, during the invited talk organized on July 9, 2022. Mr. Sandesh was delivering the talk on ‘HR Challenges in the Post-COVID scenario’ to the PGDM 2022-2024 Batch. The talk was organized as part of the Orientation Program 2022.
- Opportunities in the Finance Sector – Talk by Alumnus
The informative and motivational talk by SDMIMD Alumnus Mr. Harinath Gopalswamy, CEO-Fintelligence, was organized on July 9, 2022, as part of the Orientation Program for the PGDM 2022-2024. Mr. Harinath introduced the various avenues and opportunities in various domains of the finance sector in the current corporate world. The preparation demanded having a perfect credential to meet the aimed role was discussed with necessary skill enhancement courses available in the MOOC platform were shared. The new batch had a great Q&A session with Mr. Harinath.
- Evolution of Digital Payment – Talk by Alumnus
Mr. Abhijit Korti, SDMIMD Alumnus & AVP – Digital Marketing, Jana Small Finance Bank, addressed the new batch of the PGDM Program during Orientation Program on July 9, 2022. Mr. Abhijit focused his talk on ‘Evolution of Digital Payment in India’ introducing the journey of the digital payment system and the changing dynamics of work, workforce, and workplace in the digital world. The talk helped the new bees to realize and understand the additional skills needed apart from the prescribed studies to be in the race in the digital world. The talk concluded with a Q&A session.
Day 7-8
PGDM Students have visited Dharamshala temple where are our Chairman Dr. Veerendra Heggade addressed the students. Students have also visited some of the constituent units of SDM Trust.
Day 9: Talk by Harsha Adya, Managing Director

'Imitating the West you don’t become a success, people appreciate it if you demonstrate your values' said Harsha Adya, Managing Director, Wuerth Electroniks.
Addressing students on ‘Building your brand on the world stage' on Wednesday, July 13, 2022. Mr. Harsha said 'Trust factor develops when we have our own roots and culture; people see what is special within us. We have a lot of good core values, the ecosystem has grown and we can pass them on to the west. People are looking at different things; imitating the west will not make us successful as people are looking at different things. Stand on your roots which are very important, please do not lose them if you lose them your identity is lost, you are Indian, and be proud of our core values'.
While speaking on competence, Harsha said Competence is more about not only knowing subsystems in-depth but it’s also knowing about the entire system and how it works. Hence I would like to stress not only concentrate on subsystems but look into the overall system, which is very important today when technology is evolving. He also spoke on passion, the importance of planning and timeliness, and values & culture. While delivering talks on values and culture he called upon students to focus on long-term gains instead of short-term gains and build a very good professional network which is a pillar of success and is also easy to get many things.
