Shri T L Sankar, IAS (Retd), 1957 batch, former Director of Institute of Public Enterprise has passed away on December 26, 2018.  In his passing away, the Institute has lost a great friend, philosopher and guide.  During his long years of association with the Institute, Shri Sankar made an immeasurable contribution to the all-round growth of the Institute.  Besides creating the research focus for the Institute, Shri Sankar created a core for the Institute by upgrading the Post Graduate Diploma in Public Enterprise Management to MBA (Public Enterprise).  Under his leadership, the Institute embarked the ambitious programme of training the officers of the Indian Administrative Service. He involved the Institute in setting up of the Andhra Pradesh Technology Development Corporation and introducing programmes in the area of Information Technology.  The publication efforts of the Institute received a big shot in the arm by launching IPE Journal and bringing out publications generating inputs for the formulation of public policy on public enterprises. It was during his directorship the idea of diversification of public ownership took shape and accepted by the Government. He built up linkages under the Colombo plan with the London School of Business which provided opportunities for advance training to the Institute faculty and launching several projects jointly with the London School of Business.

 

Shri Sankar was the first Director of the project planning division of Planning Commission of India in 1968.  He was Director General of the National Institute of Rural Development, and Principal, Administrative Staff college of India.  Shri Sankar was the recipient of Padma Vibhushan.
