Xavier School of Communications (XCOMM) was inaugurated on July 2, 2015 by Ms.Archita Sahu, a popular actress of Odia film industry. Mr Amitabh Shukla, an award-winning film editor and an alumnus of XIMB, cut the ribbon of Xavier Studios which houses online video set-up, audio studio and the floor. The student edit suites room, still photography studios and faculty rooms were inaugurated by Fr. Paul Fernandes SJ, Vice-Chancellor, Fr. Tony Uvary SJ, the Registrar and Fr. Arockiadas SJ, Asst. Registrar (Administration) respectively. The Deans of different schools and staff, students and parents of XCOMM too were present on this historic function.
Fr. Lourduraj Ignacimuthu SJ, Dean of Xavier School of Communications, welcomed the dignitaries, deans, students, and parents. Mr Amitabh and Ms Archita congratulated the Vice Chancellor for dedicating the school of communications to Odisha. Fr. Paul addressed the gathering and spoke about the significance of XCOMM and that it has the potential to be one of the best media schools in India.
Earlier, an interaction took place between the esteemed visitors and students, to address their queries regarding the media industry and prospective careers in mass media. The students who just joined the course on the previous day were seen handling the cameras for an online video production. Mr Hudson Taylor, a sound engineer from Hyderabad, had done the sound proofing for the studios and the whole project has taken around 7 months for completion.
Xavier School of Communications (XCOMM) offers MA Mass Communication, BSc Mass Communication, PG Diploma in Film & TV Production and PG Diploma in Broadcast Journalism from July 2015.
