Xavier Universityto host the much-awaited third edition of TEDxXIMB
After the two successful stints in previous years, XIMB & Xavier University will organise the third edition of TEDxXIMB on 24 January 2016. TED is a non-profit organization devoted to spreading ideas, usually in the form of short, powerful talks. It began in 1984 as a conference where Technology, Entertainment and Design converged, and today covers almost all topics — from science to business to global issues — in more than 100 languages. Meanwhile, independently run TEDx events help share ideas in communities around the world. It supports independent organizers who want to create a TED-like event in their own community. XIMB has been hosting TEDx for the past two years. The third edition of TEDxXIMB to be held at the XIMB Auditorium promises to be yet another enriching experience, with speakers from diverse backgrounds.
While Mr. Tathagata Satpathy, Member of the 16th Lok Sabha from Odisha and also a journalist will try to deconstruct an Indian Politician, Miss. Masako Ono, a renowned Odissi dancer from Japan will talk about seven ancient methods of dance at the event. TEDGlobal Speaker and renowned social entrepreneur Dr. Joe Madiath, founder of Gram Vikas will deliver a talk on ‘Inclusive sanitation for Nirmal Bharat’.
Other speakers include Mr. Vijayendra Mohanty - An Indian writer and Journalist who is the Head of Story at Culture Machine which runs an online video channel by the name of Epified. Mr. Mohanty will talk about the evolution of mythological storytelling and the need to present mythology in an attractive way to the young generation. Young entrepreneur Mr. Ronak Kumar Samantray who is the cofounder of Now Floats, a start-up aiming to make the internet relevant for innumerable small businesses, will talk about lessons from his entrepreneurial journey after leaving a job at Microsoft to explain what it takes to convert an idea into reality.
Co-founder and VP, Engineering at Saankhya Labs, Mr. Hemant Mallapur will also attend the event to speak about how White Space technology from Saankhya Labs will help create a World-Deep-Web that takes internet to the 3 Billion people who don’t have it yet. Mr. Deep Mukherjee who heads Talent- Commentary and Broadcast at Star Sports will enlighten the attendees about the initiatives for ‘massification’ of sports in India.
In addition to the inspiring talks and confluence of ideas, members of the Mayur Art Center, which is devoted to the training, preservation, performance and research of Mayurbhanj style of Chhaudance will perform at the event.
As all TED Talks, this one too aims to deliver ‘ideas worth spreading’. Students of XIMB have toiled for the past two months to scale up this year’s TED Talk, persuading the brightest minds to share their ideas on this platform. The campus is abuzz with excitement for the event, and it is evident that so is the rest of Bhubaneswar. Tickets are available on BookMyShow for the general public to buy. The event begins at 2:00 pm and is expected to go on till 7 pm. It is divided into 2 sessions with an hour break for interaction with the speakers.
