Conference on “Re-thinking People Management

The second day of National HR Conference on the theme “Re-thinking People Management”of Xavier School of Human Resource Management, Xavier University Bhubaneswar, started its proceedings on4th February 2017. The main theme of today’s panel discussionwas – ‘Employment Relations: Moving Forward Towards Greater Effectiveness.”It also had papers presented on a multitude of topics covering many aspects in the world of HR by academicians and research scholars.

 

Day 2 of the conference witnessed eminent panelists from various domains of HR engaging in discussions related to employment engagement, employment relations, organizational design, and growth strategies of companies.

The session started with an address by the moderator, Dr. SarojMahapatra, Director, Jaipuria School of Business, Ghaziabad. Other eminent panelists such as Mr. P Dwarkanath; Director Group, Human Capital, Max Life; Mr. Vijay Sinha, Senior Vice President – HR, JSW Energy Ltd; Mr. RhijuBhowmick, Ex-Global Head, Diversity and Inclusion, Diageo spoke about how to take the effectiveness of employee relations, several notches higher. “A good compensation package isn’t necessarily an indicator of amicable employee relations – appeasement sometimes leads to a disaster”, Mr. P. Dwarakanath remarked. “Employment Relations has to been seen from a macroscopic perspective, instead of a microscopic one. It is guided by the nature of the organization, rather than the hierarchy”, Mr. Vijay Sinha told the audience. Mr. RhijuBhowmick spoke about “Gig Economy” and how jobs were getting fragmented.

The two-day conference concluded with a valedictory session, with Mr. BijaySahoo, Group President – HR, Reliance Industries as the chief guest. Mr. Sahoo spoke about how technological advancementsis going to change the future of people management in all fields. Dr. MousumiPadhi, Assistant Professor, Human Resource Management and Fr. Augustine, Registrar, XIMB-XUB also addressed the gathering. Prof. SnigdhaPattnaik, Dean, Xavier School of Human Resource Management (XAHR) delivered the vote of thanks.
