XLRI to hold its 60th Annual Convocation
To confer the prestigious “Sir Jehangir Ghandy Medal for Industrial and Social Peace” to Dr. Sunil Kant Munjal, Jt. Managing Director of Hero MotoCorp & Chairman, Hero Corporate Services Pvt. Ltd.
XLRI- Xavier School of Management, one of India’s premier B-School, is all set to hold its 60th Annual Convocation on 2nd April, 2016.
On this significant day, 587 XLRI students will receive their graduating certificates and medals including – 361 students of Postgraduate Programmes in Management - BM and HRM; 119 students of 2015 batch of 15-months PGDM (General Management) Programme; 20 students of Fellow Program in Management (FPM) from Jamshedpur Campus and 70 students of 2013–16 batch of PGDM-BM Programme (Part Time). The second batch of the 2014-16 batch of the Global MBA Programme launched by XLRI in partnership with Weatherhead School of Management, USA and School of Economics & Management of Tongji University Shanghai, China will also receive their graduating certificates. 17 Indian students will be awarded the certificates and medals from their home school - XLRI and a joint certification from the 3-schools’ consortium at the Convocation.
Speaking about this momentous occasion Fr. E Abraham S.J., Director of XLRI said, “Convocation is an important milestone event in the life of every student, faculty, and staff as it is the culmination of all the efforts put in by an individual during their time at the campus. This year is extremely significant for our entire XL-family as we celebrate the 60th Convocation of our institution”.
This year XLRI would confer the prestigious Sir Jehangir Ghandy Medal for Industrial and Social Peace to Dr. Sunil Kant Munjal, Jt. Managing Director of Hero MotoCorp & Chairman, Hero Corporate Services Pvt. Ltd. He will also deliver the convocation address to the graduating students at the event.
Fr. Abraham further added, “Dr. Sunil Kant Munjal is a distinguished educationist. He is the guiding force behind many educational institutions in the country and has been playing a key role in helping create unique Higher Education Initiative. A far-sighted thinker, Dr. Munjal has not only made noteworthy contributions to business and industry, but he has also been instrumental in making significant positive impact on various socio-economic reforms of India. We are extremely happy to present him with the prestigious Sir Jehangir Ghandy Medal for Social and Industrial Peace in appreciation of these stated and the many unstated achievements and accomplishments.”
Dr. Sunil Kant Munjal as the Jt. Managing Director of Hero MotoCorp Ltd and Chairman of Hero Corporate Service Ltd has been responsible for developing growth strategy and implementation of new business plans for the Group.
Dr. Munjal is on the board of several companies including Hero Management Services Ltd, Hero InvestCorp Ltd, Coca Cola India Advisory Board, Bharti Foundation and UK India Advisory Board. A former president of CII, Dr. Munjal served as a member of the Narasimham Committee, which was set up in 1990’s to chart a course for banking and financial sector reforms in India.
A distinguished educationist – Dr. Munjal is the guiding force behind the BML Munjal University and is on the board of several educational institutions, to name a few: Indian School of Business at Hyderabad and Mohali, IIT Ropar, University of Tokyo and UK India Business Council.
A far-sighted thinker, Dr. Munjal has not only made noteworthy contributions to business and industry, but he has also been instrumental in making significant positive impact on various socio-economic reforms of India. He is currently a member of the Prime Minister’s Council on Trade and Industry. Dr. Munjal has also been involved in the preparation of several socio-economic reports in the fields of skill development, vocational training, CSR and tribal development.
Dr. Munjal has several accolades to his credit for his meritorious service. In 2012, he received the Globscot Award from the Scottish Government. In 2013, he was honoured by The Royal Society of Medicine for his contribution to affordable healthcare. He has been also selected as one of the Faces of the Millennium for business.
Sir Jehangir Ghandy Medal for Industrial and Social Peace, instituted by XLRI in 1966, in honour of the Late Sir Jehangir Ghandy, former Chairman of the Board of Governors- XLRI is awarded to Heroic Leaders who have contributed towards the growth of their respective organizations and also impacted the growth of our nation in a significant way. The medal was instituted by XLRI in gratitude for Sir Jehangir Ghandy’s yeoman contribution to XLRI and the society at large. One of the oldest medals instituted by a higher education institution, the medal is awarded during XLRI’s Annual Convocation Ceremony to recognize outstanding contributions in the field of industrial and social peace in the country.
In the past years, the medal was conferred on eminent business leaders like Mr. N R Narayana Murthy, Chairman Emeritus and Chief Mentor, Infosys Technologies Ltd. in 2012, Mr. Shiv Nadar, Founder & Chairman, HCL and Shiv Nadar Foundation in 2013, Ms. Arundhati Bhattacharya, Chairman, State Bank of India in 2014 and Ms. Mallika Srinivasan, Chairman & CEO, TAFE (Tractors and Farm Equipment Limited) in 2015.
