IIM Raipur inaugurated the 5th Batch of Post Graduate Programme (PGP) and 3rd Batch of Fellowship Programme in Management (FPM) on 26th June 2014. The inauguration was kick started with a four day Orientation Programme. This programme, organised to benefit the students who are about to embark onto a new phase in their life. The orientation programme will run from 26th June to 29th June 2014
Mr. Kewal Handa, former Managing Director, Pfizer Ltd., and Member BoG, IIM Raipur was the Chief Guest for the occasion. In his Inaugural Address he congratulated the new batch of PGP and FPM students to have been able to enter into such a prestigeous Institute. Mr. Handa highlighted the importance of team work for achieving success in the corporate world. He advised the students to gel well within community and group. He stressed the importance of creating mastermind alliance by allying with people of different mindsets and cultural backgrounds dedicated towards a specific goal.
Mr. Navin Tandon, General Manager, South East Central Railway, delivered the Keynote Address. He started off with the glorious history of the Indian Railways as not only the provider of means of transportation but also as one of the biggest employers in the world. He stressed the importance of being a part of the system which is big and strong like the Indian Railways. Maintaining a positive work-life balance is important for all round growth of an individual was his advice to the gathering.
Prof. B.S. Sahay, Director, IIM Raipur extended a warm welcome to the new batch of students and the guests. He informed the students about the vision of the Institute and that is to emerge as one of the top management schools in the world. He stressed upon the importance of research for a world class management institution. He encouraged the students to develop “Skill, Scale and Speed” which are the key ingredients for achieving all round development. He advised the students to go beyond their corporate commitments and serve the society by “Dreaming big, Thinking big and Doing big.” Continuing with IIM Raipur’s vision to become a global school, the Director announced a financial assistance scheme for students to participate in reputed international events and also to pursue courses under the international student exchange programme.
Prof. PRS Sarma, Chairperson PGP introduced the core faculty of the Institute. Prof. Pradyumna Dash, Chairperson Admissions acquainted the gathering with the rigors of the selection process and the growing popularity of the Institute. He was glad to inform that the Institute is emerging as the most desired destination for students among the new IIMs. Prof. Vinita Sahay, Chairperson (FPM), introduced the FPM programme and inspired the students to perpetuate knowledge into habits day in and day out. Prof. Sanjeev Parashar, Chairperson (PGP) proposed a vote of thanks.
The Orientation Programme which includes a variety of activities and lectures by eminent personalities started with Yoga session by Dr. Siddhi Sharma.
Some of the top corporate and bureaucratic leaders and sportspersons were invited to share their experiences and motivate our young students. Mr Aman Singh, Principal Secretary, Energy & IT, Govt. of Chhattisgarh drew parallel between cricket and management in an organization. Hard work, focus, humility, consistency and ability to learn from failures are the basic requisites need for success in an organization. He emphasized on the importance of integrity of thought along with integrity of actions.
IIM Raipur almost became a melting pot of ideas when Ms. Neeta Dumre former goalkeeper of Indian Hockey Team graced the occasion with her insights about time management and leadership.
Mr. Nikhil Sahni, Senior President, Yes Bank, motivated the students by asking them to embrace their passion for education. He emphasized that having the correct attitude in life is more important than intelligence. He inspired the new brand ambassadors of IIM Raipur to work hard and wished the very best of success.
The day concluded with an outbound programme which was filled with fun, frolic and games. The freshers were engaged in a host of outbound activities by Praxis-EL. These outbound activities are developed to address the major task of assimilating the new energy, fresh intellect and rich diversity of cultures that the new students bring in the campus
