Achieving academic excellence and adapting to fast changing needs were the themes for the third day of the FDP program, which is being organized by IIM Raipur under TEQIP-II. (Technical Education Quality Improvement Program). The day’s event centered on comprehensive session by Prof. B.S. Sahay, Director, IIM Raipur.
The day started with session on ‘Achieving Academic Excellence” by Prof. B.S. Sahay. He began with discussing the scenario of Technical Education Institutions in India and the overall picture of Engineering Education. Some important concerns about Engineering Colleges in India and important Attributes of Top Engineering Colleges in the World viz., ‘Diversity of students, Diversity of Faculty, Global Curricula, Quality of Placements, Industry Interface, World class infrastructure, Alumni spread worldwide etc.” were discussed in connection with the context of achieving excellence at the institutional level.
He has stressed that Academic institutions should achieve Academic Excellence through developing Visionary Leadership, Strategic Planning, Process Management, Students, Stakeholders and Market Focus, Faculty and Staff Focus and Focus on the future of the institution.
Prof. Sahay has concluded by explaining barriers to effective administration at organization level , Managerial/Individual , Operational/Technical. He urged all the participants to attempt to overcome all this barriers in pursuit of achieving academic excellence.
A session on “Adapting to fast changing needs” was held by Prof. Styasiba Das. He enlightened the participants on the fast changing scenarios of education. He suggested several methods and urged participants to adapt to the fast changing needs of the education system in connection with achieving academic excellence.
In the next session on “Communication and Behavioral Skill” by Prof. Vinita Sahay, she stressed upon the importance of effective communication at institution level and individual level. Improvement in learning, nonverbal communication and the art of presentation making were the key issues Prof. Vinita Sahay stressed upon. She has detailed the types of communication and importance of it as the participants are holding senior positions and will move on their career growth path which calls for an utmost importance for “effective communications”.
