IIM Raipur in association with ET Cases, concluded the first day of Global Summit on Management Cases at VW Canyon on 12th December,2014. Through this summit, IIM Raipur provideda platform to various B-school faculty, researchers, practitioners, consultants to present their cases on various real time corporate problems.About 60cases from across the world were presented on the first day of the summit. The event was an effort by IIM raipur to synergize between corporate and academia and provide support in bringing real life to the classroom teaching through cases.
 
The event started with the welcome address by Prof. B.S. Sahay, Director, IIM Raipur. He emphasised the importance of case based learning in management studies and also said that as cases present a real life situation, they prompt the participants to make critical decisions and therefore this pedagogy preapares them for the challenges that they are going to face in the corporate life. He also stressed that Indian bussiness cases need to be promoted in the worldwide management institutes and this summit is  an effort to promote the same cause. 
 
The chief guest of the summit, Inagural Address by Shri Kewal Handa, Former Managing Director, Pfizer, Board Member, IIM Raipur addressed the audience accentuating the  fact that a chunk of real life helps complement  your education. He also stressed that the right delivery of the case is as important as the case itself. One of the keynote speaker Prof. Rishikesh T. Krishnan, Director IIM Indore highlighted that for a faculty, writing cases is a very good way to improve their teaching. Prof. Indranil Bose, Professor,IIM Calcutta, another keynote speaker also leverged the same fact and Technical sessions on different areas of management i.e. Finance, Marketing, Human resources , Strategy and general management were conducted. In these sessions various cases on different areas of management were presented. Some of the cases discussed were on topics like Modi Kurta - Modi Mania or Marketing Myopia, Flipkart: Challenging Journey from Phenomenal Valuations to Customer Excellence, Should Infosys Buy Back Its Shares?, Flipkart and Myntra: Acquisition and Future Strategy, The Walt Disney: Strategic Acquisition for Achieving Creativity, Motivational Efficacy Analysis of Entrepreneurship Development Programmes, Synergic Advantages Of Mergers & Acquisitions- A Case Study of Private Sector Banks of India, Kingfisher Airlines- 'Flying The Bad Times': AHuman Resource Perspective.
 
This followed Panel Discussion on “Teaching and Learning Process Through Cases”. Various issues pertaining to the case based method of teaching in management studies were analysed and solutions were discussed. Prof. A. Damodaran, IIM Bangalore moderated the pannel.Mr. Ajeet Khurana, CEO, SINE pointed out that though the idea of case based teaching is a brilliant one but the proper implementation of this method is easier said than done. Prof. Mikhail V. Plotnikar, Dean Vadens Business School, Russia provided solutions that vedio based introduction of the case can be very powerful as student find reading the long printed case monotonous. Dr. Arvind Boaz, IFS, Nodal Officer Climate Change &PCCF/MD, Forest Development Corporation, Govt of CG emphasised the need to assigning roles to the students and then discussing the case in the management institutes. Dr. Asha Kaul, Professor, IIM Ahmedabad pointed out that gone are the cases wen the cases were of 30-40 pages nowadays cases need to be short, crisp and catchy.The pannel disscussionwas followed by a Q and A session between the panelists and the audience, who were clearly enriched by the entire experience.
 
IIM Raipur has organised this Global Summit on management cases for the first time and that too at such a huge scale.This time the event was co-chaired by Prof.Ashish Kumar Garg, IIM Raipur, Prof. K K Ray,IIM Raipur and Prof. S K Mitra, IIM Raipur.
 
The first day of this grand summit by IIM Raipur concluded with a cultural program.
