“If you are not part of the solution; then you are the problem”

Time-30 minutes

The days of being neutral are long gone. For instance, India has long been accused of treading the middle path on a lot of global issues and shying away from taking sides. This has proved to be a roadblock in the way of India achieving its true reckoning and being taken seriously by the world. The world, as it stands today, demands you to take sides. No longer can you afford to tread the middle path. Hence, you are either part of the solution or are the problem.

A. Sitting on the sidelines and watching a person bleed is easy. But jumping in the middle to save the person requires courage, determination and the will to help. The problems facing India is that, by ignoring the problem and not raising their voices, too many people side or add to the problem rather than contributing to a solution to get rid of the problem.

B. Life is full of challenges and obstacles. Through the course of living, you are required to take important decisions, make choices, handle problems and so on. The way you handle these issues define your personality and character. If you allow yourself to be unaffected by these and let life flow past you, you are committing a grave mistake. Instead, if you meet your challenges head on and think of overcoming the challenges, your problems will subside and you will also feel happy about 'doing something'.

C. The call is yours, whether you want to be a part of the problem or the solution. To be a part of the problem means that either the problem is caused directly by you or you are ignoring the problem and not doing anything about it. Either way, you are accentuating the problem. However, if you are involved in the process of finding a solution to the problem by any which way, then, you are part of the solution.

D. It is difficult to make the division between problem and solution and limit the role played by humans to just these categories. It is not that easy. Certain situations demand you to watch from the sidelines. For instance, if two countries have issues with each other, there is no reason why they can't solve their issues themselves. There is no need for a powerful third country to meddle into their affairs unless requested or if the issues threaten world peace. In this scenario, it will be best for the third country to not be a part of the solution and certainly not add to the problem by interfering.

E. A problem remains a problem only till it is solved. Sometimes, waiting and watching from the sidelines is the only option available. There are issues beyond your control, which work upon you. For instance, a citizen tries to be a part of the solution by voting people he/ she thinks will defend his/ her interests. Therefore, inflation, bad roads, water scarcity are problems which the citizen is not responsible for and has no solution too. He/ she can only wait till the elected person agrees to solve the problem.

Thus, it is up to you to exercise your choice, whether you want to be a part of the problem or the solution. To say that if you are not part of the solution, then you are the problem is a bit exaggerated as sometimes maintaining a neutral stance and waiting is the best option available. But, generally speaking, the people who choose to be part of the solution and not the problem are the ones who succeed and live a happy life.
