 IIM Raipur

Indian Institute of Management Raipur is organizing GSMC 2014: Global Summit on Management Cases on December 12-13, 2014. Global Summit on Management Cases aims to build a platform for case writers, academicians and people from industry to present their cases in the area ofbusiness and management. The Summit is an endeavour to highlight real challengesand incidents faced by corporates today. Through this Summit IIM Raipur tries tosynergize the corporate and academia to create a better environment ofproblem-solving.The Summit also provides opportunities to share ideas, to improvecase writing skills besides facilitating contact among peers and disseminate experiencesof using case method of teaching. Cases were invited from faculties, researchers, practitioners, consultants and others.

The case method plays an essential role in management education. This pedagogy has been adopted successfully by several business schools worldwide. The case method is an instructor-guided, discussion-based learning tool where, instructors use questions, debate and application of analytical tools and frameworks to engage students in a challenging, interactive learning environment. The participants act as co-creators of the learning process in the case method. In this method of learning, students can visualize a real situation in a holistic setting and they are required to analyze situations, develop alternatives, choose plans of action and implementation, communicate and defend their findings in the classroom. Cases are more likely to engage students in the classroom than the conventional mode of teaching.

The country, however, is faced by an acute shortage of management cases written in Indian context. “There is no shortage of critical events, best management practices and business accomplishment by Indian Managers, but these need to be documented”, feels Prof. B S Sahay, Director- IIM Raipur. The Summit is an endeavour to fill up this gap. This year IIM Raipur received overwhelming response from case authors from Indian and abroad. The cases are received from academicians, research scholars and industry practitioners in all functional areas of management including; marketing, finance, human resource management, information and communication technology, operation management, strategy and general management and other related areas of management.  There are 150 selected case authors are presenting their cases during these two days event. The two days Summit includes fifteen technical sessions and one panel discussion. The panel discussion will be on the topic-teaching learning process through cases. The panel discussion will be moderated by Prof. A Damodaran, Professor, IIM Bangalore and panellists include Prof. Asha Kaul, Professor, IIM Ahmadabad, Dr. Arvind Boaz, Nodal officer Climate Change & PCCF/MD Forest Development Corporation, Chhattisgarh and Mr. Ajeet Khurana, CEO, SINE.

The valedictory address shall be delivered by Prof. MithileshwarJha, Professor, IIM Bangalore. The event is likely to be participated by over 300 delegates from different parts of the country.

The selected abstracts will be also published in The Economic Times.

This Summit would be a great opportunity for academicians, research scholars and corporate executives & practitioners to interact and network with top case authors and senior professors.
