IIFT Analysis and  Cut off

The Indian Institute of Foreign Trade recently concluded the nationwide MBA entrance exam. The IIFT analysis reveals a few changes in the exam as compared to previous years. The difficulty level was higher than earlier years, even as the number of questions remained same, 114 questions divided in 6 sections. However, there were a few changes in the weightage in different sections. The detailed analysis of the IIFT entrance is given below:

IIFT Section Wise Analysis

Reading Comprehension

  • The Reading Comprehension section had 16 questions
  • Each correct answer carried 1 mark and each incorrect answer carried negative marking of 0.33 mark
  • A total of five passages came in the exam, which were lengthier but readable
  • Four RC passages had 3 questions each and 1 RC passage had 4 questions
  • Expected cutoff of this section is likely to be 2.33

Verbal Ability

  • The Verbal ability section had 20 questions
  • Each correct answer carried 0.75 mark and each incorrect answer carried negative marking of 0.25 mark
  • More vocabulary based questions such as fill in the blanks, complete the sentence, create words by using jumbled alphabets, decoding the one word substitution, identification of errors, Prefix, Suffix, Grammar etc.
  • Expected cutoff of this section is likely to be 2.33

Quantitative Ability

  • The Quantitative section had 20 questions
  • Each correct answer carried 1 mark and each incorrect answer carried negative marking of 0.33
  • Topics like Arithmetic, Algebra, Geometry dominated the section
  • Expected cutoff of this section is likely to be 2.33

Data Interpretation

  • The Data Interpretation section had 20 questions
  • Each correct answer carried 1 mark and each incorrect answer carried negative marking of 0.33
  • Most of the questions were based on charts, tables, graphs and sets
  • Expected cutoff of this section is likely to be 0.50

Logical Reasoning

  • The Logical Reasoning section had 20 questions
  • Each correct answer carried 1 mark and each incorrect answer carried negative marking of 0.33
  • Most of the questions were on seating arrangement, position matrix and so on
  • Expected cutoff of this section is likely to be 1.66

General Awareness

  • The General Awareness section had 18 questions
  • Each correct answer carried 0.5 mark and each incorrect answer carried negative marking of 0.17
  • Most of the questions covered topics such as, identifying the logo, BIMSTEC, WTO Agreements and others
  • Expected cutoff of this section is likely to be 1.00

The overall expected cutoff is as follows:

General Category- 34-36

OBC- 31-33

SC/ST/PH- 25-27

 

Overall, the IIFT entrance exam was more difficult than 2017 and the cut offs are likely to go down.
