Finatix-The finance club of IIM Raipur took an initiative on 19th March to visit the villages and promote Financial Literacy Program ’Sanchayan’. As a starting step, a team of students visited Sejbahar Gram Panchayat, gathered women and educated them with basic knowledge about financial planning and various government initiatives like National Pension Scheme, Beti Padhao Beti Bachao yojana, Jan Dhan Accounts and insurance schemes. The Program mainly focused on the women of the village as they are the ones who mainly get involved in the family planning and savings.
Students not only emphasized the importance of saving money for future in banking institutions by opening Jan Dhanaccounts but also to do transactions once in a while to avail all the benefits of PMJDY. Students made women understand the importance of financial planning by conducting a game on income, investments, and savings and helped them to learn and apply the knowledge they gained through it. Prizes were given to the winners.
The program witnessed a decent turnout of public. As desired, women along with elderly and their husbands constituted the majority of the gathering. It was a big opportunity for the residents of the village and they availed it by turning in large numbers. The program ended with question answering session which lasted for half an hour in which women asked various questions about savings, insurance and Jan DhanYojana. Students used real life examples to answer their questions.
Finatix, The Finance Club of IIM Raipur believes that social growth and economic growth are important and canonly be achieved through primary education of every individual and educating them about the various initiatives taken by the government. Club with the support of institution is planning to conduct more number of events of this sort and promote the initiatives taken up by the government.
