IIM Raipur commemorated Rashtriya Ekta Diwas at its campus on the birth anniversary of the nation’s Iron Man, Sardar Vallabhai Patel. In his remembrance, the IIM fraternity honoured the great man for his sweat-and-blood effort to unite the former 550 provinces into one nation –India. This Day reminded us of the importance of the “United We Stand” policy which was an appropriate response to the British “Divide and Rule” policy.
The event started with offering flowers to the epitome of Shri Sardar Vallabhai Patel by Prof.Sanjeev Prashar, Chairman Placement, IIM Raipur. The podium was the taken by Prof. PRS Sarma who inspired students to be united in the interests of the nation by taking examples from the life of Sardar Vallabhai Patel.
Moving forward there was a panel discussion on the life and contributions of Sardar Vallabhai Patel was organised by the students of IIM Raipur. The Panelists spoke about the contributions of Sardar Vallabhai Patel in uniting the nation at the time when there were more than 500 princely states. They praised the tactful handling of the situation by the leader at that sensitive time of independence.
“Bringing people together is one thing and keeping them together is another” that were the words of the Panel moderator, Pranav Kumar - student IIM Raipur, to bring in light the efforts put by Sardar Vallabhai Patel in maintaing the united India post independence. The panel applauded the impact of Sardar Vallabhai Patel in improving conditions of the civilians by coordinating with the civil officers. They also praised the contributions of the iron man in improving the conditions of the Women in Indian Society.
‘My Life is my message’ although Mahatama Gandhi said that but these words blend well with the life of Sardar Vallabhai Patel as well. Delivering the same message moderator of the panel disscussed the problems India is facing today and how these problems could be solved by taking messages from the life of Sardar Vallabhai Patel. The panel emphasised the fact that empowering people at the grass root is very important if we want to curb poverty and similar problems our nation is facing today. Until and unless people are skilled to earn a living themselves no subsidy could help us to grow as a nation.
After the panel discussion Prof. Sanjeev Prashar addressed the students and emphasised the fact that today, we seek for rights, but shy away from duties. He concluded his speech by saying “Let us take lessons from the life of the Iron man and inculcatea sense of national and social responsibility within ourselves”.
The event concluded with a pledge taking ceremony and every student of IIM Raipur pledged to contribute wholeheartedly to nation unity and integrity
