The students of Indian Institute of Management Raipur had an informative session with Mr.Pradeep Kumar, Commissioner, Central Excise, Custom and Service Tax, Raipur.

 

Mr.Pradeep Kumar’s objective was to discuss taxation in India, how the Customs and Service Tax department functions and his experiences in the department. He started the discussions by introducing the various forms of direct and indirect taxations practised in India. 

 

Through him the students of IIM Raipur understood how the Government collects taxes from people and the role played by Central Board of Excise and Customs in tax collection. He spoke about the different acts passed for collection of duty.

 

The crucial role of leadership and emotional intelligence in workplaces was elucidated by Mr.Pradeep Kumar. He said that there are several challenges one has to face as a leader and the most difficult one is changing people’s mindset.

 

He gave examples of the challenges faced in workplace andthe challenges faced during the collection of service tax. The students asked him several questions as a result of the curiosity he aroused through his discussions.Mr.Kumar’s final message to the students was that managing change is the key challenge.

 

His was a truly informative session which left the students of IIM Raipur with a deeper understanding of the taxation policies the Government of India practises.
