IIM Ranchi’s admission criteria for its PGDM (Postgraduate Diploma in Management), academic year 2019-21, was made public earlier this year. The Institute has given an equal amount of weightage, i.e. 30%, to the students’:

  • Performance in CAT (Common Admission Test)
  • Profile and
  • Personal Interview (PI)

The ‘Profile’ component includes the diversity aspect, work experience and the past academic performance of the student (more on that below).

Apart from these three, 10% weightage is given to the marks scored in written ability test (WAT) conducted by the Institute.

Although the marks scored in CAT are indeed considered in IIM Ranchi admission criteria, these marks are mainly used as a shortlisting medium. Compared to the earlier years, the institute has significantly increased the CAT cut off for the candidates belonging to the general category.

Let’s now take you through the IIM Ranchi admission criteria in some detail below.

IIM Ranchi Admission Criteria – Step I – Shortlisting of Candidates for the WAT/PI

The first step in granting admission to the interested candidates is shortlisting them for the written ability test and/or personal interview, based on the marks scored by them in the CAT exam. The candidates should have scored a certain minimum sectional percentile and overall score, as set by the institute. All candidates who successfully meet the criteria, move on to the next round of WAT and PI.

Below provided is the cut-off set by IIM Ranchi for 2018:

IIM Ranchi Admission Criteria – Step II – WAT and PI Process

IIM Ranchi Admission criteria – Step III – Final Admission

The final admission offers are sent to the successful candidates based on a Consolidated Merit List (CML) prepared after the completion of WAT and PI process. The CML preparation factors in

  • CAT score
  • PI score
  • WAT score and
  • Profile of the candidates

30% weightage is given to the CAT score (sectional and overall) at the final stage of admission.

Weightage of each one of these components is provided below:

CAT Score - 30

PI Score - 30

WAT Score - 10

Profile - 30

Total - 100

Please note, all these percentages mean anything only for the candidates who were found eligible for the WAT and PI round.
