Dr. Naresh Trehan, Founder-CEO and Managing Director of Medanta – The Medicity and also the founder of the Escorts Heart Institute and Research Centre, is one of the leading and most successful cardiologists in India. He is born to doctor parents in Karachi during the pre-partition period and spent his childhood in a very modest 3-room flat in the Connaught Place area in Delhi. Since both his parents needed one room each for their practice, the entire family, including Dr. Trehan’s sister, Neena, had to remain confined to a single room only.
Ever since his childhood, Dr. Trehan had all the makings of a genius and was always drawn towards learning new things. He attended the Modern School in Delhi and was an active member of the Hockey and Cricket teams and was also the president of the Aero-Modelling club.
However, Dr. Trehan was naturally drawn towards medicine as his father was an exemplary figure to him and as such he could value the satisfaction that one realises from the serving the patients. Also, he was emtionally drawn towards his father’s kindness acts of providing free services to the poor. He joined King George's Medical College, Lucknow to study MBBS. In 1969, he got married to his love, Madhu, a journalist by profession and the couple moved to the US where he joined Thomas Jefferson University in Philadelphia.
He chose heart surgery as his specialisation as he realised that heart surgeries could bring him more closer to saving people’s lives, his ultimate ambition. After obtaining his degrees, Dr. Trehan privately practiced at N.Y.U. Medical Center.

With over 50,000 cardiac surgeries and innumerable contributions in the field of cardiovascular and cardiothoracic surgery, Dr. Trehan is known to be a full-of-life and a high-spirited doctor who lives his life multi-dimensionally. His contributions are highly respected and recognized by the medical society today across the globe.
