NMIMS had lodged a complaint with Joint Commissioner of Police, Mumbai regarding impersonation cases observed during NMAT 2013.  The details of the complaint are as mentioned below:

NMIMS conducts all India based MBA Entrance Test – NMAT which is conducted by M/s Pearson Vue, a multi-national company engaged in testing services at global level.  For the MBA batch 2013-15, the registration started from 11th July, 2012 until 20th September, 2012.  We have provided the facility to the candidates to select their test centre and schedule the test on  a date and time slot convenient to them.  Students were also allowed to take two additional re-takes.  The test was conducted from 11th October, 2012 to 19th December, 2012.

Candidates had to show primary photo ID proof document at the test Centre where their photograph was also captured. They were also required to submit secondary ID proof of address and signature. Thereafter, they were required to sign electronically. This year, around 69,000 candidates took NMAT for 600 seats in MBA programmes.  NMIMS declared NMAT result on 24th January, 2013 whereafter 2,500 candidates based on their test performance were shortlisted for Case Discussion and Personal Interview.

At this stage, each student was required to fill a form and affix his/her photograph. The first merit list of selected candidates was subsequently declared on 5th March, 2013 and candidates were offered admissions.  The selected candidates started coming to admission office to complete their admission formalities.

During this process, admission department discovered discrepancy between the photograph taken at the time of writing the NMAT and the photographs on the Personal Interview application form of a few students.  Finding this discrepancy, admissions office got alerted and did a thorough check of matching each candidates photograph with photograph taken at the time of writing NMAT.

This analysis showed that there are about 87 candidates in the final merit list who have impersonated and have committed forgery in securing admission.  Our research also showed that there are at least 6 individuals who have impersonated for as many as 87 or more students across the country.  Most of these students are with high scores of 220 and above.

All admissions in NMIMS are merit based.  But despite this, efforts have been made to penetrate the system through one means or the other.  Each year, we have brought to the notice of the police all such cases of fraudulent attempts to secure admission in NMIMS. NMIMS Business School enjoy the premiere position in management education in India.

SVKM’s NMIMS stands for ethics, morality and integrity in behaviour.  Industry and our other stakeholders acknowledge NMIMS for its value system, and also trust NMIMS for its integrity.  NMIMS has taken the action because we believe it is the responsibility of a leading academic institution like NMIMS to develop the character and morality of young graduates.

It is unfortunate when some individuals try unethical means to forge their admission.Further, NMIMS has grown in 32 years as country’s premier B-School and one of the top private deemed university due to its strong systems and processes like this one, i.e. the admission system.  SVKM’s NMIMS is committed to give to the nation graduates with integrity and ethical values who understand their responsibility towards the community.

NMIMS can’t let down the high confidence of industry and society which it has earned over the years.NMIMS condemn all such attempts and shall not rest contended as long as even a single individual tries unfair means to graduate.

NMIMS would like to thank the Mumbai Crime Branch especially Joint Commissioner of Police, Mr. Himanshu Roy and his officers, Sr. Inspectors – Mr. Deepak Phatangare, Crime Branch, Andheri and Mr. Nandakishor More, Cyber Cell alongwith their team who had taken up the issue on top priority and worked day and night to crack the case at the national level and bring the culprits to book.  It is such alert and prompt action that can prevent such frauds in the society.
