Market Yourself in PI

Personal Interview TIPS

Published: Thursday, 16 February, 2017 10:30 AM

Market Yourself in PI

The personal interview is a critical step in MBA admission process and should not be taken lightly. PI is aimed at knowing a candidate more intimately - assessing the clarity of thinking process, future goals and the 'fit'   factor with the B-school.

It provides the admission selection committee of a B school to evaluate your interpersonal and soft skills. With this aim MBA Rendezvous is presenting you PI tips so that you can be successful.

Today you will read PI tips on:  Market Yourself in PI

PI is a podium offered to potential candidates to talk about themselves and try and confirm their position. It is a podium offered to market your potentials and skills. When an open ended question is thrown at you, it is an open gesture to talk more about you and release your personality out in the open in the process. It is on you what you really want to show while in a PI.

You have to be smart and prepared while inside the interview room. You would be the subject of thesis from one to five people in a row. So, when the interviewer wishes to know about you, tell them about who you are and what you do.

In such questions family backgrounds don’t play much of a role. When asked by the interviewer “Tell me about yourself”, your answer should contain your strengths, your potentials, your personality etc. Family background in such questions entails less importance.

When you are being questioned as to why they should hire you, your response should begin with your past job experiences, if any, and talk about how you were successful in certain areas which is related to the current profile you are applying to.

It is all about connecting the dots perfectly. You need to explain things while connecting them to the profile you are applying for indirectly. Don’t be too open about the connection.

When you are in a PI, the person interviewing you needs to know if you are ready and fit for this profile or not. In the process of marketing, you need to bring out all the best parts of you that are needed for the profile in question.

As it’s rightly said, “It’s all about packaging”. The way you package yourself would make you win the position  and the same is applicable for MBA admission.
