Non-verbal Communication is observed in PI
Let’s understand non-verbal communication. The messages that are sent across through gestures, body language, your eyes, expressions spread across your face, posture etc. are all non-verbal cues to the panel sitting.
In the personal interview round, the panel sitting across would be more interested in observing these non-verbal gestures as opposed to your answers.
They want to know how you communicate verbally and non-verbally. You are not rated on your answers rather, you are being judged for the person you are.
Your non-verbal gestures speak more than your verbal communication and, hence that is observed more during a personal interview.
Non-verbal communication gets across your personality as well as your basic nature. For example if you sit with your hands folded, it might mean that you are a reserved person. Your hand shake says a lot. If you shake your hands with your palm facing down, you may be a dominating person.
All these are gestures that give out your nature. This nature and attitude guides towards the person you are.
You may be intelligent and versatile but, if you do not possess the right attitude or the aptitude, the panel would not allow you through the interview.
Your answers do not talk of the attitude or psychology you may possess but, your non-verbal gestures do. Hence, in an interview they would be studied more cautiously than your answers.
Why does a college need to know about your personality? Well, you are being taken into a course that requires a certain personality and attitude. You may end up spoiling your career if you make one wrong career choice.
To prevent this from happening, the panel observes your attitude through this non-verbal communication mode during the PI. Make sure you develop the skills needed for your choice of career.
