‘You live only once’ defines the attitude that the youth of the country carry today. The increasing number of start-ups by budding entrepreneurs is proof enough that the young are not scared to chase their dreams.
There are two ways of living life- one where you follow the routine, do what is expected out of you by your parents and society, the other is to live by your dreams. The first is the beaten path, where you will restrain yourself to follow conventions. The latter is a path full of risks, uncertainty, where you have no idea where you will end up. This path is riddled with adventure, where every moment is thrilling and exciting and offers new possibilities and opportunities.
The path you undertake defines the kind of person you are. Those who are averse to taking risks and want to lead a ‘settled’ life will follow the path taken by many others and structure their lives accordingly. Those, who enjoy taking risks and love the thrill of adventure, will walk the path of their dreams.
Dreams can take you places. The fluidity of dreams allows you to transcend all limitations and think beyond the mundane. The world of dreams is a world which can lead you to possibilities unknown to you. An ordinary individual is so caught up in the present, in the routine that he/she is unable to challenge his/her horizons and think beyond.
Following one’s dreams often takes courage and conviction. Because the path is uncertain and fraught with risks, the biggest risk being the risk of failure, one finds himself/herself alone in this journey. Those who follow their dreams are willing to make sacrifices and are not deterred by rejection or failure.
For instance, the famous author J.K. Rowling believed in her dreams even after being divorced, penniless and rejected by 12 publishers and consequently created ‘Harry Potter’, a global brand estimated to be worth $15 billion today.
Michael Jordan, the legendary basketball player was cut from his high school basketball team but went on to become the greatest player in the history of the sport. There are many such examples of successful people who have held on to their dreams despite setbacks.
However, merely dreaming is not enough. One needs to be ready to work extra hard to fulfil one’s dreams. One cannot afford to get complacent in any way. Dreams provide motivation as they reflect a person’s innermost desires and the person is more driven to achieve his/her dreams. Dreams are a constant reminder to the person of where he/she sees himself/herself and the tough journey that he/she needs to undertake to get there.
A lot of dreams fade away as the individual does not work hard enough and does not have a good plan to follow. A successful business is not the one who remains content with the position he/she is in but is one who continues to dream bigger and bigger and is willing to work harder.
Many people, in the autumn of their lives, regret not following their dreams when they were young. Had they done that, their lives would have been different. The path of dreams is full of fun, excitement and adventure, provided you are up for it.
