God wants you to be a winner, not a whiner

Joel Osteen, an American preacher, author, televangelist and the Senior Pastor of the Lakewood Church, is known for his saying, “God wants you to be a winner, not a whiner”.

It is true that God gave us a place on Earth to improve our strengths, gain knowledge and to excel at everything we do – in short, he placed us on Earth to be winners.

However, most people, instead of facing challenges and emerging victorious, whine all day long. They are pessimistic in life and view challenges as obstacles that hinder their progress instead of viewing them as opportunities for growth.

There are six traits that separate winners from whiners – winners focus on the present and the future whereas whiners focus on the past; winners take responsibility whereas whiners cast blame; winners think whereas whiners react; winners take action whereas whiners either freeze or sit around; winners lead by example whereas whiners look for validation; and lastly, winners decide whereas whiners waffle.

To emerge a winner, one has to learn from his mistakes and move on in life instead of thinking about the past. One will not move forward in life if he simply whines or thinks in a pessimistic manner. We were not given a place on Earth to be tortured – we were placed here to overcome challenges and this is what we should do.

Life is not a bed of roses but it is not a bed of thorns either. We have to remember that everyone faces challenges in life and the way we address these challenges and view our goals in life determine whether we are winners or simply whiners.

Henry Ford, Soichiro Honda, Bill Gates, and Walt Disney did not become successful overnight; they overcame the challenges in life instead of whining and then emerged victorious.

We should remember that whining gets us nowhere – it only diminishes our self-confidence. On the other hand, hard work and optimism helps us to move forward in life – the way God intended life to be lived.
