IlluminatiX, the Media and PR Cell of XIMB organised the second edition of TEDx XIMB in a spirit of TED’s Mission : “Ideas worth sharing”. TED conferencesare primarily organised to help communities, organisations and individuals to spark conversations and connect through regional TED-like experiences. It aims at developing a consortium of high powered ideas across disciplines and technologies to inspire people to think and take actions, thus creating a better future. The theme of today’s event was “Be Yourself, the World Will Adjust” which left the audience with various thought provoking ideas, thanks to our eminent panel of speakers.
The event kick-started with a talk by Mr InirPinheiro, co-founder and managing director of Grassroots, a company that aims at improving livelihood in villages through hospitality services. An alumnus of XIMB, he spoke at length about his personal experience as an entrepreneur and also motivated the audience to dream the “impossible dream” and have the courage to take the leap of faith. He drew an interesting analogy between a dream and an individual and urged the audience to spend time with their dream, yearn for it, and believe in it.
The next speaker was Mr Michael Burns, an American by origin who has been residing in Mumbai for the last four years. He is the director and founder of Tall Tales, Mumbai’s premier live storytelling event series. He spoke about the importance of “conviction” in story telling emphasizing on qualities like passion, strength, determination and belief. He went on to speak about how conviction is contagious, requires honesty and is generous in nature. The next speakers to inspire the audience were Mr AkshayaRautray and Ms Satabdi Mishra. They are the co-founders of Walking Book Fairs, India’s first organised outdoor bookstore and Odisha’s first bookstore-on-wheels. They passionately spoke about “Come, lets read together” and highlighted the importance of re-using and recycling for the greater good.
Next speaker was Mr Deepak Gopalakrishnan, a digital marketing professional from Mumbai who heads planning for Indigo Consulting, the digital wing of Leo Burnett, India. He emphasized on three basic traits- skill, passion and knowledge and went on to speak about merging all of them thus creating a career which is both lucrative as well as enjoyable. Next, the audience were treated with a scintillating Gotipuadance performance from the Orissa Dance Academy which inspired awe from one and all. Ms TanayaPatnaik was the next speaker. She is the Executive Director, Eastern Media Ltd and holds the credit of organising Street Store, India’s first rent free, premise free, pop-up clothing store. She emphasized the importance of following one’s instinct, team work and creativity.
The last speaker for the day was Mr KeshavDhar, the founding member of the globe-spanning intercontinental progressive rock band Skyharbour. He talked about leaving the inhibitions and following one’s passion. He also spoke about the importance of contemporariness, breaking conventions and growing with the dynamic times.
The session also included the playing of two highly popular TED talk videos which kept the audience engrossed and entertained. It was indeed an enriching experience for one and all present there.
