Eminent classical dancer and renowned exponent of Bharatnatyam and Odissi dance, Sushri Sonal Mansingh, performed at MICA on Tuesday, October 9, 2018. She is a highly feted personality and has been the recipient of the Padma Vibhushan and Padma Bhushan among various other laurels. She is currently a member of the Rajya Sabha.
Sushri Mansingh and her troupe performed the dance drama "Shri Devi Mahatmaya". The choreography was designed to reflect many dimensions of worldly experiences through episodes taken from the Devi Bhagvat Mahapurana.
The whole performance was divided into 9 pieces of dance depicting the “Navras” – the 9 emotions in human beings. She also explained the meaning and significance of each emotion before performing. The performance was followed by an interactive question and answer session wherein students asked questions about the art form and her journey.
She also spoke about the importance of discipline and focus in any field, especially when one is involved in performing arts. It was indeed an honour for MICA to host her on campus.
