XLRI is one of India’s oldest management institutes established soon after the Independence. Since 1949 it has been working towards shaping individuals into competent managers and leaders.
Every year recruiters from across the globe and country flock the XLRI campus to get the best that it has to offer. Some of the companies that visit the campus are Amazon, Asian Paints, Cognizant, E&Y, HDFC, ICICI, JP Morgan & Chase, and ITC to name a few.
Below we discuss the various aspects that XLRI provides its students that make them an employer favorite and give them a cutting edge on employability:
XLRI provides management-centric education. In addition to the three full-time postgraduate programmes (PGDM – HRM, BM, and GMP) it offers Part-time programmes for working executives, Virtual Interactive Learning (VIL), Corporate and Certificate programmes and Entrepreneurship programmes. All the courses are carefully designed and continuously fine-tuned with changing demands of the economic and global market. The curriculum focuses on fundamental subjects on Finance and Accounting, Human Resource Management, Marketing, Organizational Behaviour, Systems, Production and Quantitative Techniques along with specializations in each field. The students at XLRI are technically competent.
XLRI has an interactive pedagogy. Students are taught using lectures, case studies, industrial visits, simulation games, role plays, seminar presentations, and interactive workshops. There is an eight to ten weeks Summer Internship Program (SIP). The students get to work with industry leaders like HUL, P&G, ITC, Nestle, Marico, Coca-Cola, Goldman Sachs, Citibank, Microsoft, and Samsung in the domains of FMCG, ITES, BFSI and consulting. The knowledge imparted to the students is via real-time and simulated experiences.
Teamwork is a much-needed skill to be a competent manager. XLRI offers a three-day team building programme that provides an excellent opportunity to its students to develop leadership and team-building skills. Various committees foster the spirit of teamwork in students.
Written and oral forms of communication are a must skill in today’s competitive times. The students learn the nuances of business communication through writing assignments, projects works, and dissertations. Apart from that students get multiple opportunities to hone their communication skills by conducting seminars, hosting events, etc. The committees provide a public platform to the students to able to connect with professionals outside their campus.
The industrial interaction, assignments and committee work help improve the decision-making abilities and problem-solving skills in students. These two qualities are something that employers look for in candidates.
Employers want that their future workers can identify themselves with various roles and identities that the organizations have to offer. The decision-making section in the XAT exam is an excellent example that this quality is incorporated from the very outset by XLRI. Throughout the course, there are various instances and opportunities when students have to identify themselves in different roles and make decisions.
Role of Placement Committee
The Placement Committee at XLRI is a bridge between the corporate and the students. They help maintain the corporate relations and guide students in following aspects:
1. Prepare students for mock interviews
2. Help build confidence
3. Conduct engagement activities and corporate interactions
4. Provide Pre-Placements talks
5. Practice presentation skills
6. Provide information about jobs and companies that visit the campus.
Over the last six decades, XLRI has emerged as a strong brand. It has significant market value, and despite the market conditions companies offer the best of roles to its graduates.
These are some of the ways that XLRI provides a cutting edge on employability.
