XAT: An introduction
Xavier Aptitude Test, coordinated by one of the premier B schools - XLRI, School of Business & Human Resources (XLRI), Jamshedpur is the second largest MBA entrance exam. XAT exam is every year held in the first week of January to enroll into various MBA programs offered by B schools.
There are more than 100 B schools across the country that is associated with XAT. Some of the top B schools are XLRI, School of Business & Human Resources Jamshedpur, Xavier Institute of Management Bhubaneswar, T A Pai Management Institute Manipal, Prin. L.N. Welingkar Institute of Management Development & Research Mumbai and Loyola Institute of Business Administration Chennai.
XAT history
XAT exam has been conducted by XLRI on all India level for more than 60 years. This MBA entrance exam has been so far successful and selected the most appropriate students for MBA education. In 2012, Xavier Aptitude Test was conducted by Xavier Association of Management Institutes (XAMI), an association of likeminded MBA institutes. There are 16 core member MBA institutes and more than 85 associate MBA institutes located in different parts of the country. The test would be co-ordinated by XLRI Jamshedpur.
XAT: Exam Pattern
XAT is a two-hour long exam with multiple choice questions followed by an essay writing test which is of 20 minutes duration, comprised of 100 marks. The exam has three sections - Quantitative Ability, Verbal Ability, and Data Interpretation & Logical Reasoning. The format of the additional test may range from an open-ended essay or a multiple-choice type.
Eligibility for XAT
Candidate must hold a Bachelor’s degree in any discipline from a recognized university or deemed university in India or abroad. Candidates who got less than 50% marks in their graduation can also apply for XAT exam.
XAT Application Process:
Generally, XAT notification comes out in month of august and the application process commences from the month of September and ends by November. Candidates are required to purchase the XAT application form from any branch of Axis Bank or online purchasing and then they need to register on the official website of XAT (www.xatonline.in)
