On Thursday, MICA’s student run committee MICA Leadership Series kicked off this year’s first session with not one but two speakers. MICA Leadership Series (MLS), proactively works towards building industry conduit by having leaders across diverse fields to deliver a guest lecture to the student body at MICA. MLS hosted Mr. V. Swamy, Global head of TCSiON. TCSiON is the strategic business unit of TCS focused on enabling focused on enabling institutions, government departments and organizations from multiple industry sectors to be efficient in their recruitment/admissions process, learning and skilling and overall business operations with the use of Phygital platforms. Mr. Swamy started the session by talking about the respect and trust associated with the name ‘TATA’ and how the company has managed to make a name for itself by keeping Indian values at the core.
In a very interactive session Mr. Swamy spoke to the students of MICA about how TCSiON was conceptualized and educated the students on the importance of hardwork and perseverance, bringing in examples from the industry to illustrate the same. Mr. Swamy emphasized the importance of understanding your consumer, and thus, making a conscious decision on what you don’t want to do.
The second speaker for the day was Mr. Abhijit Bhaduri, Founder of Abhijit Bhaduri & Associates, author of popular novel ‘Don’t Hire the Best’, spoke to the students of MICA about the future of careers in the digital world. He further deliberated that the times are ever evolving. A good career stream is not one that pays the most rather one that makes you happy. He added to this by saying the difference between an ordinary employee and an expert is the happiness that the job brings to the individual.
Mr. Bhaduri spoke about making career choices in today’s times when past is not a predictor of the future. Careers which were initially put on a pedestal are now being turned down by millennials who are in search of opportunities that bring them joy and thus are more long term.
Sharing his ideology, he says, “Have the guts to go that far.”
MLS aims at bringing a balance between academic pursuit and thought- provoking perspective from the industry so that students can foster a holistic approach towards learning as well as decision making.
