MICA Professor Subrat Sarangi has emerged as Professor of the Year 2021, a recognition awarded by InsideIIM. With more than 23 years of industry, management consulting, teaching, and research experience, Professor Sarangi brings vivid learnings from various domains to his classes. For his students, Prof. Sarangi has “made learning seamless with his hands-on knowledge transfer with direct real-world applications.” InsideIIM, a web portal that helps MBA aspirants get an inside perspective of business schools, aims to acknowledge and recognize the best professors who have walked an extra mile to impart seamless teaching during the pandemic. Students across B-schools nominate their favorite professors on campus for the title of ‘Professor of the Year’ as a small token of gratitude for professors.

Dr. Sarangi, who teaches Quantitative Research Methods at MICA, said, “Given the COVID-19 pandemic with virtual classrooms being the new normal, I ensured that I did my very best by effective usage of technology to give the simulated classroom experience. Keeping the students engaged in a virtual setup was a challenge, but not something impossible more so when this is the model of education 2.0.”
Before joining MICA in June 2018, Prof. Sarangi worked with KIIT School of Management, KIIT University, Bhubaneswar, India, as Associate Professor (Grade II). In his long career in advisory services, Prof. Sarangi has been engaged with leading global and Indian companies across various industry domains, including Automotive, Hi-Tech, FMCG, Port & Infrastructure, Metals & Mining, Healthcare, Media & Publishing, and Plastics.
His current teaching interests include - B2B Marketing, Marketing Research, FMCG Marketing, Strategic Management, Supply Chain Management, Advanced Operations Management, and Doing Business in Emerging Markets. He is also a visiting faculty to XLRI Jamshedpur, IIM Sambalpur, and IRMA.
In the past, MICA faculty have won prestigious awards in India and abroad, including the M.J. Manohar Rao Award of the Indian Econometric Society won by Prof. Niyati Bhanja, Prof. Sneh Mahajan Award for the best book on modern Indian history won by Prof. Harmony Siganporia, and the B.K. Birla Distinguished Research Scholar Award for Social Sciences and Management won by Prof. Shaphali Gupta, and the Professor of the Year Award, given by InsideIIM, won by Prof. Ashutosh Dutt.
