IMT Ghaziabad Conducts An Innovative ‘Personal Growth Lab’ For Its Students
IMT Ghaziabad, India’s premier AACSB accredited management school with a distinct focus on Innovation, Execution and Social Responsibility, conducted a two-day Personal Growth Lab (PGL) last weekend for the students of PGDM 2016–18.
As part of the ongoing endeavours for realigning the programme philosophy and delivery with IMT’s vision of “contributing to the development of business and society through excellence in grooming leadership, entrepreneurial talent and research”, PGL is one of the several initiatives which have taken off this academic year. The Human Resources and Organisational Behaviour faculty team of IMT Ghaziabad (Drs Bindu Gupta, Hardik Shah, Seeta Gupta, Suryatapa Kar and Mr Janmejoy Patnaik) conducted a two-day PGL for the PGDM 2016-18.
Following were the objectives of PGL :
- Profiling to help students know their strengths and weaknesses,
- Providing feedback to enhance self-awareness without lowering self-esteem,
- Self-disclosure and peer/group sharing to help fine tune or correct one’s self image,
- Individual and group goal setting through a combination of feeling, self-observing and ruminating, and
- Creating a roadmap for self, including career choices.
The PGL is a fusion of multiple psychometric instruments, experiential activities, and games which provide students deeper insights for building and sharpening their competencies for personal and professional effectiveness. PGL enabled students to observe, understand and interact with ‘the self’ and setting the roadmap for their career choice/s. The outcomes of the PGL were ‘Personal Profiling and Milestone Planning’, identification of the areas of development and an action plan for the same. This workshop will be followed by one-on-one coaching sessions with each student to monitor their progress and help them work on the action plan.
Commenting on this initiative, IMT Ghaziabad Dean Dr Ravikesh Srivastava said, “This is the first time an innovative pedagogy was introduced to explore the leadership potential among the students of the recent batch. This pedagogy is more on the side of ‘Being’ and ‘Doing’ rather than ‘Knowing’ that is facilitated through hands-on experiential activities. It will lead to understanding the students’ strengths as well as gaps (if any), in order to work in a more structured way for the next two years.”
