IIM Sirmaur Placements – How the Institute Fared Last Year and the Outlook for 2019

IIM Sirmaur has a very active and efficient placement committee. This committee is essentially a student body that streamlines and coordinates all activities related to placements. It is guided by a recognized faculty member who serves as the chairman of placements. All students belonging to the placement committee are very active and dedicated in nature, who work with great synergy to accomplish the common goal of attracting the best profiles from the most well-known organizations. This placement committee also plays a very critical role in developing and sustaining a mutually beneficial relationship with the industry.

IIM Sirmaur exceeded everyone’s expectations during the 2018 final placements for the 2016-18 batch. The batch had 35 students in total, of which 1 went on the entrepreneurship path, 2 opted out, and 32 participated in the placement process.

One of the 6 new IIMs that were established in the year 2015, IIM Sirmaur witnessed the participation of over 45 big organizations including HDFC Life, EY, Career Launcher, Reliance Industries Limited, Indiamart, Havells, Schindler, DTDC, Naukri.com, Byjus, VLCC, GMR, Tirupati, DCM Shriram, Tata Trusts, Indiamart, Alchemist, Tolaram Group’s and Zomato.

The highest international salary offered was ₹ 53 lakh per annum while the highest salary offered at the domestic level stood at ₹ 32 lakh per annum. The average CTC came out to ₹ 12 lakh per annum. Furthermore, the institute witnessed 4 times growth in the international offers made to students, in 2018.

The average offer received by top 10% students was ₹ 30.75 lakh. The top quartile averaged ₹ 23.64 lakhs while the top 50% bagged ₹ 17.16 lakhs on average.

Function or Role wise placements

Majority of the offers, close to 57%, were offered to the marketing students, followed by 11% offers each going to Finance and Business Analysis roles. Business Development and Operations roles attracted 7% offers each. The remaining 8% offers were divided equally between Consulting and Operations/Sourcing roles.

Sector wise placements

The Pharma sector hired the maximum (18%) percentage of the students. Following the Pharma sector, was Textile, recruiting 14% of the 2016-18 IIM Sirmaur batch. Manufacturing, BFSI and Real Estate Consulting hired 11% students each. 7% students each were lapped up by Chemical and Agri Business sectors. The following sectors assumed 4% candidates each: E-Commerce, Packaging, Education, Finance Consulting, FMCG and Social.

IIM Sirmaur Final Placements – The Outlook for 2019

The 2017-19 batch of IIM Sirmaur will also be up for final placements soon. This batch comprises of 63 students having an average work experience of 24 months. Majority of the students have a B.Tech/BE background (76%) and 53% of them have more than 25 months’ experience under their belts. These students have worked with reputed companies like Infosys, Tata, Cognizant, Deloitte, Godrej, Adani, EY, Accenture and more. This year is also expected to be very good for the IIM Sirmaur placements as the placement committee is working extra hard to bring the best and the biggest names to the campus.
