Please read following topic on WAT and develop your own skills : Competition is a Rude yet Effective Motivation.
Let’s face it. Competition is a reality of the modern world. It is inevitable. No matter which field you want to make a career in, there will always be stiff competition from others who want to do the same. There will always be hundreds and thousands of people who would be hungry to grab the same opportunity as you. But how you see competition is a choice that rests completely with you. Whether you get bogged down by it or use it to motivate yourself, is a subjective choice you make, which reveals a lot about your personality.
Competition can be a burden. Knowing that thousands of people are competing for the same seat can dampen your spirits. Instead of focusing on your preparation, you end up spending too much time and mental space on what your competitors are doing. The focus shifts from what you were doing, your goals to external things. This creates a negative feeling in you as you start becoming anxious and insecure. Your emotions fluctuate, depending on the level your competitors are at.
On the other hand, if you look at competition as a challenge thrown at you, which you have to defeat, it will keep you on your toes. Competition will not let you breathe easy or relax before you reach the goal you have set for yourself. You would always be under pressure to keep improving your performance to remain ahead of your competitors and this pressure is necessary in one’s life because it also keeps you driven and ambitious. Look at any sport, for example, a true athlete thrives on competition. The athlete pushes herself/ himself and tries to defeat his competitors. Without competition, there will be no sports, only hobbies at best. It is competition that pushes you to realise your true potential.
Competition is necessary as it tells you where you stand. By judging your performance vis-à-vis your competition, you can come to know things about yourself such as how strong or weak your performance was, how much more effort is required from your end to beat the competition, are your methods proving successful or not and the like. Your competition, in fact, adds value to your performance.
Human beings are competitive in nature. They thrive when the odds are stacked against them. That is what human spirit is all about. Just as failures multiply the joy of winning, knowing that you have reached success despite the competition and challenges is in itself a matter of great pride and joy.
Competition is an effective motivational tool. Without it, you might become lazy and content with what you have and might not push yourself as hard as you ought to. It also holds a mirror before you and helps you measure your performance. Instead of fearing competition, it is better if you accept the challenge and use it as a catalyst to become successful.
