MBA Rankings 2019 of Top Business Schools

Top MBA Colleges Ranking in India

One of the common problems faced by students aspiring for an MBA degree is to figure out the best college for their needs. This can be an extremely difficult task considering the fact that there are hundreds of different options available at national as well as international level. It is here that the MBA rankings from reliable sources can help you a great deal and give you an overview of the prospective business schools that might fulfil your criteria. Business school rankings are MBA rankings published by the Government of India, HRD Ministry such as National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF) and the ones coming from other reliable sources like Quacquarelli Symonds (QS), Financial Times (FT), Business Today and Outlook. These are a few that can always be trusted.

In this short piece we will acquaint you with the latest MBA rankings and also enlighten you about the differences between them. Furthermore, we’ll also go over how you must use these MBA rankings to your advantage and why it is so important to always check the credibility of such lists very carefully before depending upon them.

The criteria and parameters taken into account by the MBA rankings

It’s very important to mention that national and international MBA rankings are based on different criteria and parameters. However, to a certain extent all such rankings do take into account some common parameters, for instance, placements, admission criteria, focus on research, quality of faculty and other similar factors. Their ranking methodologies can be both opinion or fact based and sometimes even a healthy mix of both. Regardless, the primary intent is to publish the most accurate MBA rankings so as to offer students the truest picture of management institutions in India and/or abroad.

How opinion based and fact-based MBA rankings are different from each other

While on one hand MBA rankings supposedly driven by data and facts depend heavily on the information provided by the business schools and/or universities, the opinion-based MBA rankings are more volatile and subjective in their approach, as they base their decisions more or less on the internal and external opinions coming in from the alumni, employers, academics and various other entities.

MBA Rankings published by MHRD – NIRF

Released for the first time in the year 2016, the National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF) MBA Rankings are approved and released by the Government of India’s Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD). As is the trend, the NIRF MBA rankings are out in April each year. The broad parameters covered by this ranking include ‘Outreach and Inclusivity’, ‘Teaching, Learning and Resources’, ‘Perception’, ‘Graduation Outcomes’ and ‘Research and Professional Practices’. The research methodology behind NIRF MBA rankings is that both perception and facts are taken into account, however, higher weightage is given to the teaching and research aspect of the institute.
